Planet Habitat & NYU Wagner Capstone Project: South Asia Emergency Shelter Initiative
The South Asian region has historically faced a chronic level of homelessness due to natural disasters. In response, Planet Habitat Inc. has engaged a team of masters students from the New York University Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service for their Capstone project (2010-11 academic year) to assess the emergency shelter sector in South Asia. The Capstone project will take place throughout the 2010-11 academic year and will include travel by the student team to India in January 2010 to conduct field work. The team will make recommendations on how providers of non-tent solutions can better engage with public agencies to improve proactive delivery of sustainable housing solutions for stricken communities in South Asia.
The student team members include: Faiza Mawjee, Teagan Bigwood, Seehee Chung, Aerin Cho and Daryn Kobata. Professor Charles Bailey (Director, Ford Foundation) is the NYU Wagner Faculty member advising the team. The NYU Wagner Capstone program is headed by David Schachter, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, and is a core program within the NYU Wagner School led by Dean Ellen Schall.
